Manchester United Poised to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for United

The forward, with half a year left on her deal, is known as a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Munich was expected since she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Boost the Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant boost to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Carrington

Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United seem to be gathering momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought further business:

  1. The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
