Man Who Reached For Ariana Grande at Red Carpet Event Barred from Singapore
An individual of Australian nationality who vaulted past a barrier and touched actress Ariana Grande has been deported and prohibited from Singapore.
Johnson Wen, twenty-six, was given a sentence to over a week in prison for causing a public disturbance and has now been "prohibited from returning to Singapore," Singaporean immigration authorities informed Singaporean press.
Wen pushed beyond security and approached aggressively the actress and singer, who was present at the regional launch for the film on November 13. Co-star Cynthia Erivo wrestled him away from Grande.
Wen has a history of causing disturbances at events and high-profile gatherings, including jumping on stage at the pop star's Australian show in this summer.
The occurrence sparked outrage in Singapore, with numerous people accusing him of causing further distress to the star.
The pop star has spoken of suffering from trauma-related anxiety after a terrorist bombing at her performance in Manchester in May 2017 resulted in the deaths of 22 individuals and affected hundreds.
During Wen's trial, the judge was informed he had tried to gain access on the red carpet event multiple times, according to local news sources.
He then made a another effort to breach security. Protection personnel stopped him and pinned him down.
The man subsequently shared videos thanking Grande for permitting his access and said he was "at liberty."
Law enforcement arrested him the following day and charged him with disorderly conduct, to which he confessed.
The Court Judge the judicial official was referenced by a news outlet as stating that he was looking for publicity, commenting that he was incorrect to assume he would not experience repercussions.
The singer has not addressed the incident.
Cynthia Erivo spoke about the situation to a media outlet, saying that she "only aimed to verify my co-star was protected."
"I think he didn't mean us danger, but you can't predict with these incidents, and I wanted to confirm that she was fine. That was my first instinct," she said.
