Line of Duty Announced for 7th Series on BBC
The beloved police drama Line of Duty is officially returning for its seventh installment, announced by the broadcaster.
A brand new six-part series created by Jed Mercurio starts production in Belfast in the coming months, according to the network.
The actress shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, saying she was "so excited" about the series' return. Adrian Dunbar remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together next year."
The previous series concluded in recent years with a final episode that attracted more than 17 million viewers. Speculation about a new season have been widespread for some time, but official word only arrived this week.
New Challenges for The Team
Series seven will open with AC-12 having been disbanded and renamed as the new police oversight body, as revealed by the announcement.
Martin Compston's character, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part continue tasked to combat corruption within the police force.
The team's mission "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, these officers will take on their "most delicate case to date."
New Character and Intricate Plot
A new character, Det Insp Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer known for takedowns of criminal networks, is accused of abusing his position to act as a offender.
Yet, this investigation might serve as a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still operating in the background, plot details suggested.
In a statement, Jed Mercurio commented: "Everyone involved feels enormous gratitude to the dedicated viewers."
"We're privileged to have had so many fans track the developments of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we are thrilled to be returning for a seventh installment."
He added: "Misconduct in the UK was thought to be over while Line of Duty was not airing, so I've been compelled to use my creativity."

The Scottish actor called appearing in the police drama as "a job of a lifetime".
"Beyond the program's popularity but the people I've worked with I now call dear friends."

Show History
The drama premiered in 2012 and became one of the most popular television series of the past ten years, featuring guest stars such as Stephen Graham.
Broadcasters haven't revealed when the upcoming series will premiere.
The conclusion of season six drew the extended plot about the hunt for criminal mastermind known as "H" to a close, and producers said at the time there were no plans for further series.
However, the corporation confirmed on Tuesday that a new season is now in development.
