Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Bahrain, as Iran launched missile attacks across the region in retaliation for a large-scale and ongoing attack against it by the US and Israel.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area in the area of the main base of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any destruction is not yet known and the US has yet to issue a statement.

Missile Defenses Activated

Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - stated they have intercepted incoming projectiles in their territorial skies.

In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry said it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the region.

IRGC Statement

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was targeting US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the attack on Iran carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.

That initial attack - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck locations associated with the Tehran's leadership, with US President Donald Trump calling on the Iranian people to revolt against the government.

Regional Fallout

In Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israeli military stated it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The Ministry of Defence of the UAE announced that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems dealt with the projectiles with great effectiveness and destroyed a number of missiles," the statement continued.

The statement noted wreckage landed in a populated district in the capital, resulting in some structural damage and killing a civilian.

The US Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
