Democrats Condemn Trump After He Suggests They Should Face Death Penalty

Democratic officials demonstrated outrage after former President Donald Trump alleged a contingent of Democratic legislators of being "betrayers" and asserted they should be taken into custody and punished "through capital punishment" following their publication of a disputed video.

The Recording That Triggered the Controversy

The video footage, shared on Tuesday, includes six Democratic congress members who in the past served in armed forces or security roles.

"Like us, you all took an pledge to safeguard and support this founding document," the officials stated in the brief video. "And right now, the risks to our democratic foundation don't only come from overseas, but from right here at home. Our regulations are explicit, you can decline illegal orders, you can decline unlawful commands, you must refuse illegal orders. No one has to execute orders that contravene the law or our national charter."

Trump's Angry Reply

The video message reportedly prompt a furious reaction from the former president.

On later in the week, Trump wrote on Truth Social: "It's called SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these traitors to our Country should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In a separate message, he stated: "This constitutes really bad, and Dangerous to our Nation. Their words cannot be permitted to remain. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a subsequent post, he added: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, liable by DEATH!" He also reposted a declaration that stated: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Democratic Officials React

Following Trump's remarks on that day, Democratic leadership published a joint statement censuring the remarks.

"Violent politics has no position in the United States," they declared. "Elected officials who appeared in the video all acted our United States with exceptional loyalty and honor. We unequivocally condemn Donald Trump's appalling and risky threats of violence against members of Congress, and appeal to Republican lawmakers to forcefully do the same."

The party representatives also stated that they had been in touch with law enforcement "to guarantee the safety of these officials and their relatives."

"Donald Trump must right away remove these unhinged social media posts and recant his dangerous language before he causes harm," the statement stated.

Representatives' Firm Response

The officials who were featured in the video also published a response.

"We identify as ex-military personnel and defense specialists who care for this country and made an pledge to safeguard and support the founding document of the United States," they declared. "Our pledge is permanent, and we aim to maintain it. No threat, intimidation, or promotion of aggression will prevent us from that important obligation."

"What's most telling is that the former president considers it subject to penalty by execution for us to reiterate the statutes," they added. "Armed forces members should understand that we have their protection as they fulfill their pledge to the national charter and responsibility to adhere to only proper directives. It is not only the proper thing to do, but also our obligation."

They added: "The entire nation must join forces and condemn the former president's calls for our murder and partisan aggression. This is a period for principled stance."

Additional Governmental Comments

The Opposition leader also denounced Trump's comments and shared on digital platforms: "We must be absolutely clear: the ex-commander in chief is requesting the execution of elected officials."

He continued: "This constitutes an direct THREAT. Each congressional member, all representatives, the entire nation – without partisan consideration – should censure this immediately and unconditionally."

The Conservative official justified Trump's claim that the Democrats had participated in "rebellion", labeling the video as "wildly inappropriate", stating: "This represents very risky, you have prominent officials of the legislature telling troops to defy commands, I think that's unprecedented in US history."

The Conservative representative also according to sources informed journalists that in what he examined of Trump's posts, Trump was "explaining the violation of treason" but that "attorneys have to parse the terminology and establish all that."

Administration Response

During a executive branch meeting on Thursday afternoon, when questioned by a journalist, "Does the president want to put to death members of Congress?", the administration spokesperson responded: "Absolutely not."

"Let's be clear about what the former president is reacting to," the representative said. "We see current representatives of the American legislature who conspired to organize a video message to members of the US military, to active duty service members encouraging them to disobey the commander in chief's lawful orders."

She stated: "The purity of our military depends on the command structure, and if that chain of command is violated, it can lead to fatalities, it can result in chaos, and precisely what these congressional representatives ... are basically supporting."
